WELCOME TO SERVE ALASKA!
About Us
Serve Alaska, the State Service Commission, is overseen by no fewer than 15 and no more than 25 voting Commission members appointed by the Governor.
Our Mission:
To foster, support and promote the ethics of service and volunteerism to all Alaskans.
The Commission Members
The purpose of the Commission is to engage Alaskans of all ages and backgrounds in community-based service and volunteerism as a means of community and state problem solving and promoting participation in the National AmeriCorps Program, Learn and Serve America Program as required for the receipt of federal financial assistance under section 12638 of the National and Community and Service Trust Act of 1993 (PL103-82).
Serve Alaska is funded through the Corporation for National and Community Service at the Federal Level. The Commission’s primary function is to oversee grants provided to local non-profit and community agencies to run national service programs. The largest single vehicle for channeling federal resources for national and community service in Alaska is through this Governor’s commission. These funds helped Alaska recruit, train, deploy 2,500 volunteers on a full and part-time basis to address locally identified needs in education, homeland security, environmental, public safety and other human needs of Alaska residents.
